Over 150 Connections Found for Child with Autism

May 20, 2021
COLORADO: Tommy* is barely a teenager but he has already spent nearly five long years in the foster care system. He has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which poses additional challenges, and Tommy has not had contact with any of his own relatives while growing up in foster care.

But one day, Tommy’s Connections Advocate gained access to Connect Our Kids’ People Search and Family Connections tools, and quickly found 169 connections for Tommy! Some of these connections are Tommy's relatives who live out-of-state. These relatives have since become actively involved in Tommy’s life.

Two relatives that Tommy’s Connections Advocate found were his paternal grandmother and paternal aunt. They were both overjoyed with excitement at the prospect of reconnecting with Tommy. They had lost contact with Tommy when he entered foster care years ago, but have since reconnected with him. The grandmother is committed to supporting Tommy. His paternal aunt regularly calls Tommy and has sent him gifts to celebrate his latest birthday. Tommy is currently doing well in his placement and will be there until a permanent home is identified.
